Davisburg fence company for homes in and around downtown

Davisburg has had its own post office since 1857, and Anchor Fence builds fences for the homes near Broadway, Davisburg Road, and the country lanes around them. We are a family owned Michigan fence company with a shop in Redford and a North Oakland County location, and our White Lake location handles Davisburg jobs. We install vinyl, wood, chain link, and steel and aluminum fences, plus gates and railings. Because Davisburg is unincorporated, Springfield Township’s zoning sets your fence limits, which we explain on site. Call 248-392-0244 or ask for a free quote.

White picket fence in front of a suburban home

A small town center with township zoning behind it

The hamlet of Davisburg was settled in 1836 and grew around a station on the Detroit and Milwaukee Railroad, a line Canadian National runs today. Downtown keeps a village feel, with Mill Pond Park on Davisburg Road, the Hart Community Center inside it on Broadway, and the Shiawassee Basin Preserve just west of town.

Davisburg has no city or village council of its own. Springfield Charter Township writes the zoning rules for every street here, downtown and out in the country.

Who to ask about a fence permit

Call the Springfield Township Building Department and ask whether your project needs a permit. If one applies, the property owner gets it. Our quote visit gives you a measured layout and a materials list to bring along.

Fence styles that suit Davisburg yards

Some Davisburg homes sit close to the street and their neighbors, while others have room to spare. Because the township sets a much lower limit in front than along the back, the right style depends on which part of the yard you are fencing. Browse every residential fence option for ideas.

Black aluminum ornamental fence along a lawn

A front fence that stays under 3 feet

If your house sits near the sidewalk, the front yard may be shallow, and the required front yard allows 3 feet at most. A vinyl picket or a low steel and aluminum fence frames the walk and keeps the porch in view. Add a matching walk gate.

Wood privacy fence along a rear yard

Privacy behind a village home

When neighbors are a driveway away, a solid fence along the back and side lines makes the yard your own, and the township caps those lines at 6 feet. We build privacy fences in vinyl or wood. A deck screen beside the house in the rear yard can reach 8 feet, outside a required side yard.

Chain link fence at sunset

Room for the dog and the vegetable beds

Chain link fencing keeps a dog home and rabbits out of the tomatoes for less than a solid style, and snow blows right through it. Ask for a gate wide enough for a mower.

Before the first post goes in

Every Davisburg installation begins with a utility locate request. Then we set each post in concrete at a depth chosen for Michigan frost, so gates still swing true after hard winters, and we lay out the run to keep the fence on your side of the line.

  • Michigan law calls for at least 3 business days’ notice to MISS DIG (811) before any digging, fence posts included, and we submit that notice for our jobs.

  • Utility companies mark the public lines. Anything you installed yourself, such as a sprinkler line or a cable run to a garage, will not be marked, so tell us where it is.

  • Swapping a post in its original hole by hand may be exempt from notice, yet we still check for buried lines first.

How the township limits apply to a Davisburg home

Davisburg yards follow Section 40-781 of the Springfield Township zoning ordinance. In a residential district, a fence may rise to 6 feet in the side and rear yards but only 3 feet in the required front yard, and a rear deck or patio screen can reach 8 feet outside a required side yard. The better looking face must point toward the outside of the lot, materials must be ordinary ones such as wood, metal, or vinyl, and broken pieces must be repaired or removed. Confirm the current wording with the township.

Subdivisions, pools, and homes on the water

If your home is in a subdivision with a homeowner association, the township says its permit review does not check a development’s master deed or bylaws, so ask your association about its fence rules too. A pool fence must meet the state construction code. On a lot that touches a lake, fencing between the house and the ordinary high water mark has to be at least 80 percent open.

Davisburg fence questions we hear most

No. Davisburg is an unincorporated community inside Springfield Charter Township, Oakland County, so the township’s zoning ordinance covers fences on Davisburg lots. If you are unsure which township your parcel is in, check your tax bill or call us.

Call the Springfield Township Building Department at (248) 846-6517 and ask. The property owner is responsible for any permit that applies, and we can give you the layout, height, and material details to have on hand.

In the required front yard, Springfield Township allows 3 feet at most. A short picket or open metal fence is the usual choice. Side and rear fences can reach 6 feet.

Both. The township enforces its zoning limits, and your association enforces its own restrictions, which the township says it does not review. Plan for the stricter one, and bring the guidelines to your estimate.

An estimator walks and measures the line with you and goes over styles, colors, and gate locations. You then receive a written quote with a materials list. Call 248-392-0244 or use the online quote form.
