Commercial fence work for Plymouth businesses

Plymouth packs a lot of business into about two square miles. Shops and restaurants surround Kellogg Park downtown, businesses line the Ann Arbor Road corridor, and the city still has light industrial zones.

Commercial fencing in a small, busy city

Sites are tight. Back lots share alleys, delivery trucks need room to turn, and customers walk right past the work. A commercial fence here has to fit the space, keep sight lines open for drivers, and look clean from the street.

Who we work with

Our commercial customers include retail and restaurant owners, office landlords, light industrial shops, apartment and condo managers, churches, schools, and other institutions.

How a commercial job runs with Anchor Fence

1. Site walk. We meet the owner or manager, measure, and ask how the site works: deliveries, trash pickup, customer parking, and after-hours security.

2. Plan and quote. You get a written quote with materials, gate sizes, and any post work in pavement.

3. Permit. The property owner applies for the Plymouth permit. We give you the fence line, layout, and material details for the application and point out the forms the city asks for.

4. Install. We schedule the crew with you so the work fits around open hours as well as it can.

Every commercial installation carries Anchor Fence’s two-year workmanship warranty, and material warranties depend on the product. Your quote spells out both.

Planning for Michigan snow

Snow and ice are hard on commercial gates. A V-track slide gate can jam with packed snow, ice, and salt grit, while a cantilever slide gate has no ground track to clog. For a busy drive, we often suggest a cantilever design plus a plan for clearing the gate’s path. Plowed snow also piles against fences along lots, so we set heavier posts at corners and ends where plows push.

What we build for Plymouth businesses

Commercial jobs in the city fall into four groups: enclosures, security fencing, gates, and railings.

Dumpster and equipment enclosures

Trash corrals, generator pens, and storage cages keep the back of a building neat and secure. Our Cages and Enclosures use chain link, steel, or privacy panels, with gates wide enough for the hauler.

Security fencing for lots and yards

For a contractor yard, a storage lot, or the rear of a shop, Commercial Chain Link Fencing is strong and fast to install. Where looks matter, Commercial Steel and Aluminum Fencing gives an ornamental front that still stops foot traffic.

Gates and access

Swing gates, Commercial Gates, and Slide Gate Systems control who drives in and out. Our slide gate systems can work with electric or solar operators, keypads, and remote controls. For sites that check people in on foot, we also install Booths and Turnstiles.

Railings and guardrails

Ramps, loading docks, and raised walks need sturdy Commercial Railings. In parking lots, Guardrails protect buildings, walkways, and drop-offs from cars.

City of Plymouth rules for commercial fences

Every fence or wall in the City of Plymouth needs a permit from the Building Department, and commercial work is no exception. The height and design limits depend on the zoning district:

  • Business districts: fences and walls should not top six and a half feet.

  • Industrial districts: fences may reach eight feet in side and rear yards.

  • Barbed wire: allowed only in industrial districts, only on fences at least eight feet tall, with no more than three strands on a “Y” arm that leans over the owner’s property.

  • Industrial front yards: no front yard fence on industrial sites under ten acres. Larger sites need planning commission approval.

  • Corners: at street corners, nothing over 30 inches may stand within 25 feet each way.

  • Apartments and condos: residential district rules apply, so side and rear fences stop at six and a half feet and front yard fences stay decorative and low.

If the fence is part of a larger project, such as a new building or a parking lot redo, the city’s site plan review may apply as well.

Questions businesses ask about fencing in Plymouth

In the City of Plymouth, fences and walls in business districts should not exceed six and a half feet. In industrial districts, fences may be up to eight feet tall in side and rear yards. Apartment and condo sites follow the residential rules. Anchor Fence checks your zoning before we quote the height.

Only in an industrial district. City of Plymouth code allows barbed wire on fences at least eight feet tall, with no more than three strands mounted on a “Y” arm that projects over the property being fenced. Barbed wire and electric fences are not allowed on residential lots.

Yes. The City of Plymouth requires a permit for every fence or wall, including commercial ones. Larger site projects may also go through site plan review.

Yes. Anchor Fence installs commercial swing gates and slide gate systems, and our slide gates can be paired with electric or solar operators, keypads, and remote controls. We help you choose a gate that fits your traffic and works in Michigan snow, then build the fence around it.

We plan the schedule with you before the crew arrives. Anchor Fence asks when deliveries come, when customers park, and which areas must stay open, then sets the work order to keep your site running as well as possible. Some steps, like digging post holes, need a clear area for a short time.
