Commercial fence contractor for Canton businesses

Anchor Fence is a commercial fence contractor serving Canton Township businesses, property managers, and industrial sites from our Redford shop. Our crews put in commercial chain link, steel and aluminum fence, swing and slide gates, cages and enclosures, guardrails, railings, and booths and turnstiles. Canton sets fence heights by zoning district, up to eight feet in its industrial districts, and we plan each layout around those limits. Every commercial installation comes with a two-year workmanship warranty in writing.

Commercial fencing for Canton sites

A business fence has a job to do every day. It keeps people out after hours, steers traffic to the right gate, and protects stock, vehicles, and equipment.

What Canton sites need from a fence

Many Canton businesses sit along Michigan Avenue, Ford Road, and near the I-275 exits, and each type of site asks for something different.

Warehouses, yards, and light industrial

Storage yards and loading areas usually need tall chain link with gates wide enough for trucks. Canton allows fences up to eight feet in its LI-R, LI, and GI industrial districts. We size gate openings for the vehicles that use them and set heavier posts at gates and corners, where the load is greatest. Our Commercial Chain Link Fencing page shows the gauges and coatings we use.

Retail, offices, and multifamily

Shopping centers, office parks, and apartment communities often want a fence that looks good from the road. In Canton’s commercial districts, fences may reach six feet but cannot sit in a required front setback. Ornamental Commercial Steel and Aluminum Fencing fits these sites well. Apartment pools also need a barrier with self-closing, self-latching gates, so ask about pool fencing during the quote.

Churches, schools, and community sites

Grounds that host the public often need fencing around play areas, fields, and parking. Gates have to be easy to use for the people who belong there and secure after hours. We plan the gate count and swing direction with the people who run the site.

For larger projects, tell us how the site runs during the quote. Shift changes, delivery hours, and fire lanes all affect gate layout.

Canton rules that shape a commercial fence

Canton Township applies one fence ordinance, Section 2.20, to homes and businesses alike, with heights set by district. Knowing the limits up front keeps a project from stalling at permit review.

  • Height by district: six feet in commercial districts, kept out of the required front setback; eight feet in the LI-R, LI, and GI industrial districts.

  • Barbed wire: banned in most places, with narrow exceptions for barbed wire cradles on public utility sites and in some agricultural, industrial, and commercial settings.

  • Privacy slats and mesh: the ordinance bans mesh, vinyl slats, or similar material attached to a fence. Screening a yard in Canton takes a solid fence style or another approach the township approves.

  • Sight distance: fences near drives and intersections must meet the township’s sight distance rules.

  • Permit and inspection: a fence permit is required, and the township inspects the finished fence.

We confirm the rules for your parcel’s district with Canton’s Building and Inspection Services before we price the job.

How we plan and build commercial fences

Commercial work starts with a site visit. We walk the fence line, mark gates, and note slopes, drainage, and anything in the way. Then you get a written quote with the material, height, gates, and schedule.

MISS DIG, Michigan’s 811 system, gets our call at least three business days before the first hole is dug. Private lines such as site lighting, irrigation, and lines to outbuildings are not marked by MISS DIG, so we ask your facility team where they run. We typically set posts in 42-inch concrete footings, the same depth Michigan’s building code sets for house footings. Tall fences and wide gates carry more wind and swing load, and deeper footings help them stay plumb through freeze and thaw.

Chain link line posts can often go in while the ground is cold, with concrete at gate and corner posts.

Our commercial warranty

Anchor Fence backs every commercial installation with a two-year workmanship warranty. Steel and aluminum materials carry product warranties up to a limited lifetime, depending on the product. Vinyl fence material has a limited lifetime warranty, excluding vinyl-coated chain link. Your written quote states the terms for your site.

Commercial fence questions

Canton Township allows fences up to six feet in its commercial districts, kept out of the required front setback. In the LI-R, LI, and GI industrial districts, fences can reach eight feet. Anchor Fence checks your parcel’s district and any site plan conditions with the township before we quote the height.

Usually not. Canton’s fence ordinance bans barbed wire, with narrow exceptions for barbed wire cradles on public utility sites and in some agricultural, industrial, and commercial settings.

Not with slats or mesh attached to the fence. Canton’s ordinance prohibits mesh, vinyl slats, or similar material attached to a fence, and that includes commercial chain link. Anchor Fence can suggest solid fence styles for screening and check what the township will accept for your site.

Yes. Anchor Fence installs slide gate systems and swing gates for Canton businesses, including wide drive gates for trucks and walk gates for staff. In snow country, cantilever slide gates are often a good choice because they ride above the ground with no track to clog with ice. We size each gate to the drive during the site visit.

The homeowner or property owner obtains the Canton fence permit. Anchor Fence does not pull permits by default, but we can advise you on the rules and give you the layout and material details for the application. We call MISS DIG at least three business days before digging and coordinate the township’s inspection. Your team only needs to give us site access and point out private underground lines.
